Log In | Documentation of Rare Birds
Documentation of rare or unusual birds observed on the Christmas Bird Count is important for many reasons. A bird is
considered rare or unusual if it is accidental or casual to the state, considered out-of-season or out-of-range, is expanding
it's range, or does not have a winter range established in the records. The Birds Requiring
Documentation list details which species fit into this category. Additionally, the winter ranges of each species can be
found Winter - Species Occurrence Maps. The list was created
based on data from the Minnesota Christmas Bird Count and the M.O.U. Winter Seasonal Reports and a request for documentation
is based upon the data and is not a commentary on the skill or qualifications of the observer. The CBC compiler will be notified
automatically as they enter their results into the M.O.U. website.
Documentation can be submitted in two ways. The first and preferred method is to fill-out the online form on the M.O.U. main web page under Reporting Birds>Enter RQD Documentation.
The second method is to print and fill in a paper RQD form (PDF file)
or paper RQD form (RTF file)
and send it to the CBC Coordinator who will scan the document and fill-out the
online form attaching the scanned form to the online form.
