This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, December 6th, 2007
sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Harley Hanson found a GREAT GRAY OWL on the 2nd at milepost 183 of MN
Highway 200 between Hill City and Jacobson in Aitkin County.

The INCA DOVE along 3rd Street in downtown Two Harbors was still present
as of the 5th at 304 2nd Avenue. The VARIED THRUSH at 226 Ridgewood Road
in east Duluth, west of 34th Avenue East between First and Fourth
Streets, was still present on the 6th. It has been seen most
consistently between 7:00 and 9:00 am under the bird feeder. A VARIED
THRUSH was found last week north of Chisholm in Angora, and it was still
present on the 5th. Anyone interested in looking for the bird should

Mike Hendrickson found a first-cycle ICELAND GULL at the Superior
landfill on the 6th, along with a first-cycle THAYER'S GULL and two
first-cycle GLAUCOUS GULLS. A GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at Agate Bay in Two
Harbors on the 2nd.

Shawn Conrad found a late-lingering AMERICAN COOT and PIED-BILLED GREBE
on the 2nd on the Mississippi River at Cohasset in Itasca County. Carol
Tveekrem had a late HARRIS'S SPARROW and an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW on the
2nd at her feeders in Schroeder, Cook County. A late SWAMP SPARROW was
seen on the 1st along the East Castle Danger Road in Lake County. Jan
Green had a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK at her feeder on the 1st along the Old
North Shore Road in Duluth Township.

The Duluth Christmas Bird Count will be held on Saturday, December 15,
2007. The Two Harbors Christmas Bird Count will be held the following
day on Sunday, December 16. Anyone interested in participating in either
