I did a rough count of some thirty loons this afternoon at Hyland Lake in Bloomington, and there was some calling going on . . . a wonderful sound. Also noted was at least two hundred Double Crested Cormorants filling the trees on the island in the middle of the lake. Sitting amongst the huge flock on his own private perch was a Blue Heron. Last, but certainly not least, was a lonesome but smiling Horned Grebe in one of the bays at the northeast end of the lake . . . a beautiful bird.

Enjoy the season,
Gerald Brimacombe
