On Friday April 18, I counted at least 150 red breasted mergansers on lake Phalen in St.. Paul with as many as a dozen loons. 85 to 90 % of these mergansers were male.
On Sunday afternoon April 20 hundreds of ruddy ducks were observed on Loon Lake just east of Waseca.
