This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, June 19,
2008 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You

We are experiencing the first really warm, summer week this week.
Evidence that the weather did not deter many species is appearing as
young birds are showing up everywhere, and sounds in the air can be
confusing as the young ones find their voices.

Ben Fritchman found a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE at the north side of Long
Prairie in Todd County on June 18. The bird was seen near the bridge on
US 71 about two blocks from MN 27.

Elizabeth Almlie reported from Rydell NWR in Polk County of sightings of
RED-NECKED GREBE, AMERICAN BITTERN, WILSON'S SNIPE, YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER, EASTERN KINGBIRD, SWAMP SPARROW, and YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD
this week.

Eileen Schantz-Hanson was in Marshall County this weekend where near
Florian Park her group saw SHARP-TAILED GROUSE, WESTERN KINGBIRD,
BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, and ORCHARD ORIOLE. At Agassiz NWR they saw nesting
RED-NECKED GREBES. Nancy Jackson, while at Agassiz NWR observed BLACK
TERNS, and a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW on June 14.

In Roseau County, Nancy Jackson counted 33 SANDHILL CRANES in one group.
Other species seen there included WESTERN GREBE, EARED GREBE, and both
SEDGE WRENS and MARSH WRENS.

Thanks to Ben Fritchman, Eileen Schantz-Hanson, Elizabeth Almlie, and
Nancy Jackson for their reports.

2008.
