This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, March 13th, 2008
sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Kim Eckert located a very vocal and apparent displaying MERLIN on the
13th along the 1900 block of W. Kent Road in Duluth.

SHARP-TAILED GROUSE were seen on the 11th on the traditional lek on the
east side of CR 29 just north of the Dart Road near Meadowlands. The
NORTHERN HAWK OWL in the Sax-Zim Bog was relocated on the 9th along CR
7, between 0.5 and 1.0 mile south of the Stone Lake Road. Sparky
Stensaas relocated an AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER as well as RED
CROSSBILLS along the Admiral Road (CR 788), 1.1 mile north of the Zim
Road (CR 27). A BOREAL CHICKADEE was seen on the 11th at a deer carcass
hung in a tree along the Admiral Road, 2.6 miles south of the Zim Road.
HOARY REDPOLLS, as well as COMMON REDPOLLS and EVENING GROSBEAKS were
seen as recently as the 9th at the Blue Spruce Road feeding station one
mile north of CR 133.
