Yesterday at 3PM I observed a Northern Mockingbird
at the Oakwood Cemetary in Rochester.
The bird was in the NW corner of the cemetary.
The bird was originally seen flying up from the road
to the fence, it then flew east over the trees.
A few minutes later I relocated the bird sitting on
the road, apparently sunning itself.
While looking at it from 30 yards away the bird
suddenly crouched low, almost laying on the ground.
I thought that was kind of weird, but a few seconds
later a first year Cooper's Hawk came in and pinned
the Mocker to the ground.
Not too long after that an SUV came by and flushed
the Coop, I watched it fly away with the Mockingbird
in its talons.
Good day to be a Cooper's Hawk,
not such a good day to be a Mockingbird.
