With the year drawing to a close, there are fewer birds to be found. At the Chevalle wetlands in Chaska there have not been many ducks at all this past month. Over the weekend, there were just the usual Canada Geese, Mallard, Hooded Merganser, and Pied-billed Grebe. There was still a Killdeer hanging around as well. Surrounding the wetlands there were a few Horned Larks and a lone Rusty Blackbird with a nice showing of why it got its name.

At Rapids Lake MVNWR, there were both Tundra and Trumpeter Swans on the lake. Flyovers seen were Tundra Swans, Canada Geese, and Cackling Geese. Feeding at the feeders were Goldfinch, House Finch, and Purple Finch. Sparrow numbers have declined significantly, but there were still Song, Savannah, and Fox Sparrow along with Tree Sparrow and Junco. There were 3 pair of Eastern Bluebird hanging around and small groups of Red-winged Blackbird, Grackle, and a few Cowbird.

At Chaska Lake there were around 100 Gadwall with Coot, Mallard, Blue-winged Teal, and Canada Geese.
