This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, October 16th 2008.

On the 16th, an immature GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was discovered at
Pelican Island of Leech Lake, Cass County. The part of the island where
the bird was found is private property. Additional information regarding
the possibility of birders trying to see it may be forthcoming.

A PACIFIC LOON was found at Wigwam Bay on the western side of Mille Lacs
Lake on the 11th. Two RED-THROATED LOONS were at the lake's Garrison
Harbor in Crow Wing County on the 14th. A RED-THROATED LOON was at Park
Point's 31st Street / Lafayette Square access in Duluth on the 12th, and
another was seen near the Sky Harbor Airport on the same day. Two SURF
SCOTERS appeared out from the airport on the 13th.

An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL is being seen on the Minnesota River
south of the Memorial Bridge in Mankato on the Blue Earth County /
Nicollet County line.

The fall's first VARIED THRUSH was reported on October 11th from
Moorhead, Clay County -- this is about a month earlier than normal. It
was on the Minnesota side of the Red River North across from Jack
Williams Stadium.
