This is the Duluth Birding Report for Friday, October 24th, 2008
sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A RED PHALAROPE was found on the 22nd by Shawn Zierman along the
breakwater at Agate Bay in Two Harbors. A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was seen
the same day near the ore docks at Agate Bay, and was still present on
the 23rd. Jan Green saw a ROSS'S GOOSE and a NORTHERN PINTAIL at the Two
Harbors golf course on the 21st.

Mike Hendrickson saw a PACIFIC LOON on Lake Superior on the 19th out
from Park Point at the Lafayette Square 31st Street access. Mike also
saw a SURF SCOTER fly by the McQuade Road safe harbor northeast of
Duluth.

Numbers of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS continue to build in northeast
Minnesota, with a record high count of 744 tallied at Hawk Ridge on the
21st. The first COMMON REDPOLLS were reported from the Ridge on the 20th
and the first PINE GROSBEAK was reported on the 16th.
