Wilson's Plover in St. Louis County
2013-05-27

'Accidental' in Minnesota - Five or fewer records in St. Louis County for the Spring season

This Wilson's Plover was found at the beach at Park Point, Duluth near Lafayette Square at 7:21 am, but disappeared soon after, and it took a group of Duluth birders 2 hours to refind the bird on the beach near the Sky Harbor airport, where it was seen hanging out with a group of other shorebirds, including 5 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 28 Sanderlings, 1 Dunlin, and 2 Ruddy Turnstones, and many observers were able to see the bird. The only previous records of this species in MInnesota are of single birds at Duluth on 4 July 1981 and 20-25 May 1982.
