Common Tern in St. Louis County

Common in St. Louis County in the Spring season

About 100 Common Terns were displaying, vocalizing, proffering fish, and copulating at the Superior Entry, 29 May 2009. The nesting population at the nearby Interstate Island WMA is threatened by burgeoning numbers of Ring-billed Gulls, which breed earlier than Common Terns. The first Ring-billed Gull eggs have already hatched this year; at least 10 chicks were seen there today.
