73:1681998-12-15near AldenFreeborn(record #99-12, vote 3-4). This record was originally voted on and found acceptable (The Loon 71:157). However, the record was reconsidered and discussed at the April 2001 meeting of this Committee, and a new vote was taken. While this bird most likely was correctly identified, neither of the two diagnostic features which separate this from Ringed Turtle-Dove are documented. The dove was not heard to vocalize, and the presence or absence of black on the outer webs of the outer rectrices as seen from below is not clearly described. Not Accepted

72:1642000-01-062000-01-07Grand RapidsItasca(record #2000-04, vote 0-7). The brief documentation does not address any differences which distinguish this species from Ringed Turtle-Dove, and the description even suggests the bird was actually a turtle-dove, since it was “very light color, almost white, sort of a creamy color.” Not Accepted
73:1682000-02-152000-02-16WillmarKandiyohi(record #2001-01, vote 2-5). Although the documentation (including sketches) is very extensive, like the record above there is no description of any vocalizations or of the undersides of the outer webs of the outer rectrices. Again, however, in all likelihood the identification was correct. Not Accepted
72:1642000-04-192000-06-01Leota Twp.Nobles(record #2000-30, vote 0-7). Although the two birds were almost certainly correctly identified, the very brief description includes nothing to preclude the possibility of Ringed Turtle-Dove. Not Accepted
73:352000-05-07Redwood FallsRedwood(record #2000-31, vote 3-4). Although there is little doubt the identification was correct, the dove did not give any vocalizations, and the pattern on the undersides of the outer rectrices was not visible. Without either or both of these diagnostic features, the possibility of Ringed Turtle-Dove is not entirely precluded. Not Accepted

1074:362000-12-152001-08-15RussellLyon(record #2001-13, vote 7-0). This record was accepted on a second-round vote after the first vote was an inconclusive 4-3; close examination of a photograph shows the diagnostic under tail pattern of this species. Accepted

1274:362001-06-152001-07-15CaledoniaHouston(record #2001-42, vote 7-0, The Loon 74:7-13). A nesting pair seen by many observers and photographed, representing the first confirmed breeding record of this species in the state. Accepted

1675:412002-04-132002-06-23HermanGrant(record #2002-41, vote 7-0). Though the documentation from the original observer does not entirely preclude the possibility of Ringed TurtleDove, a subsequent description and photos from another observer confirmed the identification. Accepted
1774:1612002-05-152002-08-15CaledoniaHouston(record #2002-42, vote 6-1 one individual only). Although seen by many observers with three individuals eventually reported, including a juvenile, only one observer submitted any documentation. This description is of two birds: one an apparent female on the nest (which at the time could not be seen well enough to rule out the possibility of Ringed Turtle-Dove), and the other a male calling nearby. Accordingly, the documentation for only one individual was accepted. This location was the same as the nesting area of 2001, and it seems obvious a pair again nested in 2002; however, without further documentation this cannot be confirmed. Accepted

1975:412002-06-152002-07-15AmboyBlue Earth(record #2002-76, vote 6-1). This bird was seen by many observers, with documentation including both the diagnostic vocalization and the pattern of the underside of the outer rectrices. Accepted
75:1602002-12-22MilanChippewa(record #2003-05, vote 0-7). These were almost certainly correctly identified as collared-doves, but, as the observer states, he was unable to see them well enough to preclude the small possibility of Ringed Turtle-Doves. Not Accepted

2275:1602003-04-11near ClaremontDodge(record #2003-12, vote 6-1). Vocalizations of this dove were heard and described, and the bird was photographed well enough to see the diagnostic under tail pattern. Note that several presumably correct identifications of this now essentially Regular species could unfortunately not be accepted (see the the possibility of an escaped/released or hybrid Ringed Turtle-Dove was not eliminated. If possible, when observing a collared-dove, it is best to concentrate on seeing and describing the exact pattern of the underside of the outer rectrices, and to listen to and describe any calls given. Accepted
76:392003-04-25AppletonSwift(record #2003-56, vote 0-7). The identifications in both these records was most likely correct, but the documentations in both cases is not detailed enough to preclude the small possibility of Ringed Turtle-Doves. Not Accepted
