On September 30th, Dorothy Russell found SANDHILL CRANES along CR 45 in Polk County, and on October 5th Rick Julian again reported a large number of birds in the same area. Upon further investigation on the 5th, 1200 birds were found there, approximately 2 miles west of State Hwy. 32. Other birds in the area included NORTHERN HARRIER, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, COMMON RAVEN, MEADOWLARK, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW and DARK-EYED JUNCO. Farther west down the road at the Pembina Trail Preserve SNA there was a large bull moose!

Shelley Steva and Jeanie Joppru visited the rice paddies in Red Lake County on September 30th and found a variety of birds including SNOW GOOSE, TUNDRA SWAN, KILLDEER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, LEAST SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, STILT SANDPIPER, COMMON SNIPE, DARK-EYED JUNCO, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and HARRIS'S SPARROW.

Also on the 30th, Glenn Browne reported many YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and PALM WARBLERS, along with WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS near Lancaster in Kittson County.

Dorothy Russell found SHORT-EARED OWL, HARRIS'S SPARROW, SWAMP SPARROW and LINCOLN'S SPARROW in Red Lake County on October 2nd.

And last, but certainly not least, Beth Siverhus found a GREAT GRAY OWL near the Bednar Forest Road in the Beltrami Island State Forest, Roseau County, approximately a week ago.

Other migrants reported this week include AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, FRANKLIN'S GULL, MERLIN, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, EASTERN BLUEBIRD, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, PINE WARBLER, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, CHIPPING SPARROW, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, SAVANNAH SPARROW and RUSTY BLACKBIRD.
