You may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888. It has been a cold , but pleasantly quiet week here in the northwest, and feeders, both avian and human have been very busy. Here is Pennington County at our feeder east of Thief River Falls, a NORTHERN SHRIKE has visited several times , checking out the BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES. Also a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER appeared at the feeder recently and a pair of PILEATED WOODPECKERS are coming daily. Shelley Steva reported twenty COMMON REDPOLLS in Oklee, Red Lake County, on December 20. Also seen were about 200 SNOW BUNTINGS, and 30 LAPLAND LONGSPURS in the county. Leon Thoreson observed a NORTHERN GOSHAWK at his farm near Climax on December 22. Feeding regularly in his yard are BLACK-BILLED MAGPIES, about 150 SNOW BUNTINGS, and many COMMON REDPOLLS. Marshall Howe saw a GRAY JAY at the Lake Alice Bog in Hubbard County on December 22. He reported PINE GROSBEAKS, and a HOARY REDPOLL at his place near Dorset on December 24. The RED CROSSBILLS reported last week across the lake are still there. A late HERMIT THRUSH was seen at the feeders of Hebe and Jim Shipp near Pelican Rapids on December 26.
