You may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888. The entire state has had a stretch of wet weather and rainfall amounts vary greatly. Secondary roads are a mess, and birders are warned to be careful which ones to take. Birds are settling down quickly to the business at hand of raising the year's young. Craig Mandel and Alyssa DeRubeis reported a CATTLE EGRET flyover along I-94 just southeast of the Alexandria exit on June 6 in Douglas County. A EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was seen in the town of Kensington along Tower Street. From Hubbard County, Marshall Howe reported BANK SWALLOW and AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN on June 3, and MARSH WREN on June 4. Craig Mandel and Alyssa DeRubeis found several interesting species in the Felton Prairie area of Clay County on June 6. Two GRAY PARTRIDGE were seen along 170th St N about a quarter mile north of CR 26, and two GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS were found along that street about a quarter mile north of the cattle guard. UPLAND SANDPIPER was also found in the same general area north of the cattle guard. Just past the cattle guard, a WHIMBREL and three pairs of MARBLED GODWITS were seen . CHESTNUT- COLLARED LONGSPURS were also seen from about a half mile to a mile and a half north of the cattle guard. At Buffalo River State Park, they relocated the SPOTTED TOWHEE and the EASTERN TOWHEE that were reported by Mark Otnes last week. Directions are to go to the main swimming beach and picnic area, go west to the bridge, continue to the east for 0.3 miles. The birds were in the aspens and brush where the Prairie View and River View trails split. Here just east of Thief River Falls in Pennington County, on June 9 a flock of from 20-25 CEDAR WAXWINGS arrived in the yard hawking for insects in the yard and over the river. On June 11, after several day's absence, a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER reappeared at the feeder looking for sunflower seeds . On June 7, while conducting the Erie BBS, I heard a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW singing at the intersection of CR 28 and CR 9 in far northeastern Pennington County.
