This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, January 21, 2016 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.

Weather in the northwest has been stable this week with no severe highs or lows, storms or high winds. Perhaps because of this, few reports have been sent in.

From Warroad in Roseau County, Beth Siverhus reported an AMERICAN ROBIN on the bike path in Warroad this week, and several flocks of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS feeding in the fruit trees.

Here in Pennington County, Tammy Swick again reported a male SNOWY OWL southeast of the Thief River Falls wastewater treatment ponds on January 18. She wasn't sure if it is the same on she reported a week earlier, but thought it seemed to be a whiter individual. On January 16, three PINE GROSBEAKS appeared at our feeder east of Thief River Falls. On the 17th, a BROWN CREEPER and several COMMON REDPOLLS were seen in the yard.

Zeann Linder reported a SNOWY OWL along Polk County Road 21 a mile or so east of Sherack on January 16.

Patrick Beauzay saw a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, Clay County, on January 17.

Thanks to Beth Siverhus, Patrick Beauzay, Tammy Swick, and Zeann Linder for their reports.
