This week with a couple of milder days, a few birds were reported, but there was little variety. Most folks reported common feeder birds and other overwintering species. Several snowy owls were also observed.

GRAY PARTRIDGE were observed in northern Kittson County by Larry Wilebski on January 11.

From Marshall County, Cliff Steinhauer reported COMMON REDPOLLS, and PINE GROSBEAKS in his yard near the south side of Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge on January 11.

In Thief River Falls , Pennington County, Shelley Steva and I found 25 CEDAR WAXWINGS feeding on crabapples in the area of Dewey Ave on January 7. An AMERICAN KESTREL was seen at the Hazel elevator that day also.

Sandy Aubol in Polk County found two GOLDEN EAGLES along US 75 near Angus on January 7. At the Crookston cemetery, she observed RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, PINE SISKINS, COMMON REDPOLLS, and a MERLIN. At home in East Grand Forks, she reported NORTHERN CARDINAL, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, and HARRIS'S SPARROW. Elsewhere in the county she found GRAY PARTRIDGE. I found a SNOWY OWL in Polk County on January 3. Leon Thoreson reported another SNOWY OWL on January 5, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE on January 6. Agassiz Audubon reported a HOARY REDPOLL among the COMMON REDPOLLS on January 11.

Wayne Perala reported some species on January 11 at and near the Orwell Dam in Otter Tail County. They included NORTHERN SHRIKE , a SHORT-EARED OWL which was later found killed by a car, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, SNOW BUNTING, and EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE.

Five SNOWY OWLS were found in Wilkin County by Nick Roehl on January 7.
