This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A SPRUCE GROUSE was seen by Dee Kuder on the 26th in northern St. Louis County, south of the Echo Trail (CR 116) along the Norway Trail (FR 471). Dee also heard CONNECTICUT WARBLERS east of FR 200 along the Astrid Lake trail. Flocks of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS are being seen on a regular basis throughout northeast Minnesota.

A possible Arctic Tern was seen briefly on the 29th by Chris Mansfield at Park Point near the Sky Harbor Airport. The LEWIS'S WOODPECKER in the Billings Park neighborhood of Superior, Wisconsin was last reported on the 30th along the St. Louis River at the west end of 21st Street.

Unless something unusual is reported in the next week, the next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, July 17th.
