This is the Duluth Birding Report for October 5th, 2014 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was reported by Shawn Zierman and David Brislance on the 3rd in the Grand Marais around site number 168W and it was still present on the 5th. Shawn also reported a BOHEMIAN WAXWING in the same area.

An immature ROSS'S GOOSE has been present at the Two Harbors golf course since September 25th and was still present on the 2nd. Jan Green saw a FIELD SPARROW on the 4th off the Old North Shore Road in Duluth Township. Peder Svingen saw a VESPER SPARROW on the 4th at a private residence along East Superior Street east of the MN 61 expressway.

PARASITIC JAEGERS, POMARINE JEAGER, and first cycle LESSER-BLACK-BACKED GULL and THAYER'S GULL have been reported by Peder Svingen, Mike Hendrickson and others in recent days on the MN side of the Superior Entry, as well as along Wisconsin Point. Mike Hendrickson saw a LONG-TAILED JAEGER on September 25th on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry. Kim Eckert saw six RUDDY DUCKS on the 2nd at the Park Point Recreation Area.
