This is the Duluth Birding Report for September 17th, 2015 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Single RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen at the Hawk Ridge/Lester River count on the 14th, 15th and 16th. SWAINSON'S HAWKS were seen at Hawk Ridge over five consecutive days between the 8th and the 12th.

A CALIFORNIA GULL and three PARASITIC JAEGERS were seen by Robbye Johnson and others on the 16th at the first parking lot on Wisconsin Point. Two LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were reported there on the 17th.

New arrivals for the fall season during the past week include SNOW GOOSE, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, AMERICAN PIPIT, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, and HARRIS'S SPARROW.
