This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday May 25th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Because of time constraints, information reported to the hotline may be edited or omitted, but all contributions are included in our permanent records.

Jim Lind found a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER on May 23rd in Two Harbors, Lake County. It has been seen infrequently foraging in the long-needle pines that occur sparingly in the wooded area along the Harbor Walk behind the red lighthouse.

A BLACK-NECKED STILT was reported May 24th from Pierce Lake in Martin County. It was seen along the eastern shore of the lake near the boat landing.

A male PAINTED BUNTING was at a feeder in Maple Grove, Hennepin County on May 24th. It has been visiting feeders at both 6204 and 6211 Comstock Lane. From I-494 and Bass Lake Road go west on Bass Lake Road to Vicksburgh Lane. Go south one mile to Elm Road. Turn right and drive to Comstock Lane. Turn south onto Comstock, drive to the cul de sac. You may park only in the cul de sac, and please do not block nearby driveways.

Interesting was the report of a WHITE-EYED VIREO in the Glendalough State Park campground, near the town of Battle Lake in Otter Tail County. On the 20th the bird was singing in the trees above the main shower and restroom building in the Cart in Campground.

There is a pair of YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS again at Sibley State Park in Kandiyohi County. The territory is between the bike path and the lake, west of the boat landing.

Bill Marengo reports that a CLARK'S GREBE was still at Thielke Lake in Big Stone County on the 14th.

Three HUDSONIAN GODWITS were at pool number 4 at Carlos Avery Refuge in Anoka County on the 23rd.

An adult LITTLE BLUE HERON, first seen May 18th, is still being seen at Ritter Front Park in Burnsville, Dakota County. This park is on the west side of Interstate 35 between 185th street and County Road 70. Use the east frontage road that runs between these two roads to reach the park.

A SNOWY EGRET was at Lake Alice in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County on the 20th.

On the 17th, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen about five miles northeast of Willmar in Kandiyohi County but I have no further directions.

A possible MISSISSIPPI KITE was seen in Scott County on May 24th. It was seen only briefly along county road 16 about a mile north of County Road 13.

And finally, HENSLOW'S SPARROWS have returned to O.L. Kipp State Park in Winona County. As many as six have been heard singing in the fields, especially near the headquarters building.

In cooperation with the Minnesota Office of Tourism, highlights of this hotline can be heard at a toll free number which is available to callers outside the Twin Cities area. That number is 1-800-657-3700.
