This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday July 6th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Because of time constraints, information reported to the hotline may be edited or omitted, but all contributions are included in our permanent records.

The male PAINTED BUNTING was still singing in the cul-de-sac area of Comstock Lane, Maple Grove, Hennepin County on July 2nd.

The EURASIAN TREE SPARROW is still being seen in Clay County. Please call me for directions.

The KENTUCKY WARBLER is still being seen at Minneopa State Park, Blue Earth County, near the parking lot for the picnic area. A second KENTUCKY WARBLER, first discovered by Bruce Fall on June 25th at Murphy-Hanhrehan Park, Scott County, was still present on July 4th. From the horse trailer parking area off Sunset Lake Road, take the main horse trail which starts east of Sunset Lake Road. Walk east about 400 yards. Just west of a small pond on the north side of the main trail take an unmarked minor trail to the north about 250 yards to where a large fallen tree blocks the original trail. The warbler sings from the vicinity of the fallen tree, and to the west up the slope 100 yards or so. This bird is easily found without the use of tapes. Also at the park a second-year male SUMMER TANAGER was discovered on June 24th. The location was off the horse trail, about 300 yards east-southeast of trail marker 10; it was heard later that day north of trail marker 15, but it has not been seen since.

On June 30th Bob Ekblad reported a FERRUGINOUS HAWK flying over I-94 just south of the Dalton exit in Otter Tail County. On the same day in Waseca County Oscar Johnson found a SWAINSON'S HAWK near the junction of county roads 9 and 33.

Eight GREATER YELLOWLEGS were at Agassisz NWR in Marshall County on June 29th. At the Warren sewage ponds in Marshall County on the same day were two very late SNOW GEESE. Also, present were eight SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and five LESSER YELLOWLEGS.

On June 29th a SHORT-EARED OWL was seen about three miles south east of Fourtown in northwestern Beltrami County. On June 24th, Albert Dietz found a GREAT GRAY OWL at the intersection of highway 88 and U.S. highway 169, west of Ely in St. Louis County.

A BLUE GROSBEAK was near the town of Marshall in Lyon County on June 28th. Roger Schroeder found the bird along county road 76 about a quarter of a mile west of county road 5.

And finally EVENING GROSBEAKS briefly visited a feeder in Ramsey County on June 29th.
