This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Monday, August 12th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

On August 11th, Cindy and Verne Krienke discovered a SWALLOW-TAILED KITE along Scott County Road 46 just north of Scott County Road 2. This is just east of I-35 in the extreme southeastern part of the county. County road 46 is also called Pillsbury Avenue, and the kite was seen soaring over the junkyard near 26126 Pillsbury Avenue. Though the bird could not be relocated in this area on subsequent searches, it was rediscovered in Dakota County by Louis Claeson later in the day. It was seen along U.S. highway 52 at mile post 109 just north of the town of Hampton. This is between 200 and 210th streets.

This state-wide birding report is brought to you and financially supported by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union (MOU). The MOU is Minnesota's oldest and largest bird club.

The report is composed from observations generously submitted by MOU members and other birders throughout the state. You can support this weekly birding update by submitting your bird reports to Anthony Hertzel at axhertzel@sihope.com or by calling the hotline directly at 763-780-8890 and leaving a detailed message.
