This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, January 30th.

A male BALTIMORE ORIOLE is coming to a jelly-feeder in Silver Bay, Lake County. Bill and Susie Nelson report that the oriole has been visiting since November.

On the 24th, a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was found by Paulette Anholm along Cook County Road 59 near the Lake Superior shoreline.

Tom Auer reported a GREAT GRAY OWL and a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER on St. Louis County Road 319 in the Sax-Zim Bog area on the 25th. Warren Nelson reported another Great Gray Owl on Aitkin County Road 18, two and a quarter miles west of of the junction with County Road 5. In the town of Aitkin were three flocks of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, and in Crow Wing County, Steve Blanich reported that the towns of Crosby and Ironton have many Bohemian Waxwings.

A VARIED THRUSH was seen January 22nd in Roseville, Ramsey County. Check the crabapple trees along the 2000 block of Rosewood Lane South.

In Lake County, the Two Harbors TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was relocated on the 25th along the walking trail near the base of the old concrete dock that enters Agate Bay.

Ken Lafond found a SNOWY OWL on the sod fields in Blaine, Anoka County on the 25th and again on the 27th. It was seen near Davenport Avenue along 109th Street. This is just east of state highway 65.

Steve Millard reported a BELTED KINGFISHER at the Lake Bronson dam in Kittson County on the 18th.

And finally SHORT-EARED OWL was at the Rothsay Prairie in Wilkin County over the weekend, along with three GOLDEN EAGLES.
