This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, March 8th 2007.
The GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE is still visiting the feeder in the town of Mountain Lake, Cottonwood County and was seen as recently as the 7th. From state highway 60, exit onto 3rd Avenue and drive to 10th Street. Turn north on 10th street and drive to the edge of town to a cemetery and lake on the left. The feeder is in front of the pale green house, which is the second to the last building on the right side of the road.
A GYRFALCON was still west of Hastings in Dakota County on the 5th. Check along 180th Street just east of U.S. Highway 52.
On the 8th, the NORTHERN HAWK OWL was still present north of Duluth on the east side of St. Louis County Road 4, about a quarter of a mile north of its junction with Martin Road.
A pair of CAROLINA WRENS is frequenting the Golden Valley, Hennepin County, home at 6701 Glenwood Avenue North. The best time to visit is mid-morning. Another pair has been visiting Bill Bruins' home in Rochester, Olmsted County, for several weeks. A CAROLINA WREN has been seen intermittently at the Old Cedar Avenue Bridge area in Bloomington throughout the winter, and another appeared at a Mounds View, Ramsey County, home on the 8th.
A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was reported by Mary and Merle Wovcha near the junction of 27th Avenue West and 16th Street in Duluth on the 7th.
A VARIED THRUSH was at the home of Blake Nordin about five miles north of Hackensack in Cass County on the 3rd.
New migrants reported this week include SNOW GOOSE, GREAT BLUE HERON, HORNED GREBE, and NORTHERN HARRIER.
