This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, August 9th 2007.

A family group of four BURROWING OWLS was found in Pipestone County on the 6th. The birds are 1.8 miles north of Edgerton on County Road 17. Look 100 yards east of the road and 100 yards south of the treeline. Birders should note that any nesting species and Burrowing Owls in particular are sensitive to human intrusion.

Five unidentified SCOTERS were seen near the rocky island at Good Harbor Bay, Cook County, on the 4th.

On August 8th, two WHIMBRELS were on the mudflats at Purgatory Creek Wetland in Eden Prairie, Hennepin County, but the birds could not be found the following morning. They were originally seen from the blind on the southwestern side of the wetland, near Prairie Center Drive and Technology Drive. An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was here on the 9th. A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was at Tamarac Pool of Agassiz NWR in Marshall County on the 3rd.
