This is the Minnesota Birding Report for March 3rd, 2011.

On March 1st, a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was reported from Montissippi Park in Monticello, Wright County. It's being seen with a group of COMMON GOLDENEYE near the usual winter congregation of TRUMPETER SWANS.

A few LONG-TAILED DUCKS were on Lake Superior in northeastern Two Harbors, Lake County, on February 28th.

Also on the 28th, Mike Hendrickson found eleven SPRUCE GROUSE along Lake County Road 2 about a mile and a half north of the Sand River.

That TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE is still being seen at the north end of Lake Vadnais feeding in the cedars on the west side of Sucker Lake Road about a third of a mile south of Ramsey County Road F. It was found as recently as February 27th.

BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS have been reported in increasing numbers recently and I have reports of large flocks from the counties of Cook, Lake, St. Louis, Todd, Aitkin, and Crow Wing. New spring migrants arriving over the last week include, GADWALL, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, REDHEAD, COMMON MERGANSER, GREAT BLUE HERON, KILLDEER, BALD EAGLE, and LAPLAND LONGSPUR.
