This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday July 5th, 2012.

I have no recent updates of the SPRAGUE'S PIPIT which has been at the Felton Prairie in Clay County since June 8th. Directions to the location from the junction of state highway 9 and Clay County Road 26 are to go east for about three miles to 170th Street. Turn north and drive the dirt road to the first fence north of the windmills. Park and walk east along the fence to a metal pipeline post. Listen here for the bird's skylarking song.

A pair of COMMON GALLINULES is being seen at the 180th Street Marsh in Dakota County. Check the first pool west of Goodwin Avenue on the north side of 180th Street.

Three AMERICAN AVOCETS were in Carver County on the 5th. Other southbound migrant shorebirds which have begun to arrive in the state include SOLITARY SANDPIPER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, WILLET, LEAST SANDPIPER, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, and SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday July 12th, 2012.
