This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Sunday January 26th, 2014.

Except for the continued reports of SNOWY OWLS throughout the state, there is very little to report. A LONG-TAILED DUCK continues to be seen on the Mississippi River out from Point Douglas Park in Dakota County. It was last reported on January 25th.

A NORTHERN HAWK OWL is being seen along McLeod County, Road 12 about two miles north of the town of Hutchinson.

On the 23rd, a CAROLINA WREN was photographed by John Richardson at his feeder at the corner of Jenny Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Brainerd, Crow Wing County.

On the 23rd, Mike Hendrickson found eight SPRUCE GROUSE about a mile north of the Sand River along Lake County Road 2 north of Two Harbors.

A short list of a species are attempting to overwinter includes AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN at Black Dog Lake in Dakota County, EASTERN BLUEBIRDS in rural Scott County, a HERMIT THRUSH at Nine Mile Creek in Hennepin County, and a SWAMP SPARROW at the Pond Dakota Mission Park in Hennepin County.
