This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday December 25th, 2014.

At least one of the two COMMON EIDERS discovered on Lake Superior in east Duluth is still being seen. Check in the harbor and at Canal Park near the bridge. And on the 21st, Karl Bardon found a first cycle CALIFORNIA GULL at Canal Park. A GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW is also still being seen in Duluth, visiting several feeders near 44th Avenue East and Regent Street. Most observations are from the alley behind the houses.

On December 20th, Steve Millard found a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County. Check the river near Hannah Park at Alcott Avenue. On the 17th, a female HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen outside the Grand Marais harbor in Cook County.

In Becker County, a male VARIED THRUSH was seen on the 23rd at 13114 Merry Meadow Lane in Detroit Lakes. And on the 21st, a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was in Duluth feeding on crabapples near the blue trailer home between 4059 and 4066 Nelson Road. Another solitaire was found by Tom Tustison on the 13th in Resurrection Cemetery in Dakota County. It's near the center of the cemetery on the west side.

And a few more SNOWY OWLS are showing up around the state. Three are along Sherburne County Road 17 south of U.S. Highway 10. Two were in Brainerd, Crow Wing County on the 24th, across from the Curling Club. One was in St. Paul on the 14th at the junction of University Avenue and Raymond Street. And on the 23rd, one was reported from Clay County, a mile south of Georgetown on the west side of U.S. Highway 75 at 150th Avenue NW.
