This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, June 22, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Perhaps the best bird reported this past week is the second year LAUGHING GULL found by Bob Janssen on June 15 in Polk county. The bird was on the eastern side of Lake Cameron in with a small flock of RING-BILLED GULLS. Cameron Lake is in the town of ?. Unfortunately, soon after the bird was discovered, it disappeared and has not been seen since. If anyone does re-find this bird, I would appreciate hearing about it. Bob also reports that YELLOW RAILS and SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS were in Norman and Polk counties.

A SNOWY EGRET was reported from Coon Rapids on Tuesday, June 17 in a small pond near 121st Ave. But ,this bird may in fact be a GREAT EGRET.

On Saturday, June 17, Tony Hertzel birded the SW tier of Minnesota counties from Big Stone south to Rock county and found the following normally under-reported species: four CATTLE EGRETS in Meeker county about four miles east of the town of Darwin along US Hwy. 12; four MARBLED GODWITS were in a small pool along the Swift - Big Stone county line along US Hwy. 12, about 13 miles east of Ortonville; SWAINSON'S HAWKS were in Lac Qui Parle, Yellow Medicine, Lincoln, Pipestone and Rock counties; WESTERN KINGBIRDS were easily found in most of the western counties, especially Lac Qui Parle, Yellow Medicine, Lincoln, Pipestone and Rock; the YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO at Sibley SP in Kandiyohi county; DICKCISSELS and GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were easy to find in all the SW counties; ORCHARD ORIOLES were in Rock county most easily found at Blue Mounds SP; BLUE GROSBEAKS were also in the park near the interpretative center near the southern entrance. Also, an adult FERRUGINOUS HAWK was seen briefly in Rock county two miles west of US Hwy. 75 on Rock CR 9. Rock CR 9 is three miles north of the northern entrance to Blue Mounds SP.

Jay Hammernick reports finding an OSPREY in Rock county on June 11.

WHIP-POOR WILLS and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS were in Carver county at the Minnesota Valley NWR on June 17.

Parker Backstrom found an unexpected LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE at the junction of Aitkin CR 18 and 5 on June 11. I would appreciate all reports of LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE.

BELL'S VIREOS were at the Kellogg ?? at the McCarthy Lake State Wildlife Mgmt area in Wabasha county on June 17.

The YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER is still being seen in Sibley SP, Kandiyohi county. This is about 12 miles north of the town of Willmar. The bird is at the Cedar Hills picnic area near the public beach.

And the CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER is still at Murphy-Hanrehan Park in Bloomington and the KENTUCKY WARBLER is still at Seven Mile Creek Park in Nicollet county.

Thanks to everyone who calls in reports, though I may not have room here to make note of every bird called in, all reports are very much appreciated.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, June 29. If you have birds to report, please leave your name, phone number and a brief but specific message.
