Peder Svingen reports finding YELLOW RAILS at two locations this weekend. RAILS were heard along the Swamp River in Cass county, 6 miles north of MN Hwy. 200 on MN Hwy. 371. And also at the Pembina Trail Prairie on the south side of CR 45, four miles west of MN Hwy. 32.
Five CATTLE EGRET were seen two miles north of Mankato on US Hwy. 169 on July 25.
At the Glencoe sewage ponds, the following 14 species of shorebirds were reported on July 22-23: SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER, PIPING PLOVER, KILLDEER, GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SPOTTED, SOLITARY, SEMI-PALMATED, LEAST, WHITE-RUMPED, BAIRD'S, PECTORAL and STILT SANDPIPERS and SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.
FRANKLIN'S GULLS have been reported in good numbers from many areas around the state over the past week. Notable sightings include about 300 birds near Glencoe. Gene ? found 25 birds near the town of Le Seur and about 1,000 gulls were at a landfill near Brownton, McCleod county.
Two SWAINSON'S HAWKS were found in Dakota county on July 22 by Scott ?. One was at the Lakeville Airport and the other at the UM Research facility in Rosemount. And he also reports finding an UPLAND SANDPIPER near the town of Empire and 11 LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES at various locations around the county.
Oscar Johnson found a WESTERN KINGBIRD on Saturday, July 22. The bird has been nesting at the SE corner of an athletic complex in Brooklyn Park.
