This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday May 30th sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

After last week's heavy push of migrants and this tape's record number of calls, this week I have received very few reports, and migration has definitely tapered off.

A SNOWY EGRET was reported from along Northwest Blvd. in the town of Plymouth in Hennepin County on May 27th, but I have no further specific information.

Those the three SURF SCOTERS are still at Snelling Lake at Fort Snelling State Park, and were seen as recently as Sunday May 19. The birds are two first-year males and a female.

Two PIPING PLOVERS were seen at Morris Point in Lake of the Woods County on May 26th.

Steve Deger found a GREAT GRAY OWL along MN Highway 73 in Carlton County on Friday, May 24th, south of the town of Cromwell.

Gary Simonson found two NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS in Beltrami County, in a field south of County road 402, 7/10ths of a mile east of U.S. highway 71.

A BELL'S VIREO was reported from a picnic area along the shore of Lake Hendricks in Lincoln County on May 23rd. BELL'S VIREOS along with WILLOW FLYCATCHERS were also heard along the railroad tracks which run south of Black Dog Lake in Dakota County

A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was found at Beaver Creek State Park on Sunday May 26. The directions are as follows: It was heard on a 1 1/4 mile loop trail that goes around a grassy field. The bird was heard about 100 feet down the main trail where the trail forks.

CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS were reported to be abundant at the Felton Prairie in Clay County. MARBLED GODWITS and UPLAND SANDPIPERS were also fairly easy to find in the area.

A female SUMMER TANAGER is coming to the feeders owned by Jo Theye in southeast Rochester. There are as many as seven SCARLET TANAGERs there as well. Though Jo agreed to having the information reported, please call her before attempting to see the tanager. Directions from Rochester are, go south on Hwy 52 and take Hwy 19 to the south. Jo's driveway is off of the road to the left before you cross over the Root River. In addition, TUFTED TITMOUSE can also occasionally be found at her feeder.

And finally, HENSLOW'S SPARROWS have returned to O.L. Kipp State Park in Winona County. At least one bird was seen singing in the field on the west side of the main road.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday June 6th. If you have birds to report, please leave your name, location, phone number and a specific message.
