This is the Minnesota statewide birding report for Thursday June 11th sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

That WORM-EATING WARBLER found on June 2nd at Seven Mile Creek County Park in Nicolett County was seen as recently as the 9th. The bird can be found singing about a quarter of a mile down trail number 2 where it crosses the creek. A SUMMER TANAGER was also reported from here on the same day.

And that BEWICK'S WREN found in Sherburne County last May is still at the Camp in the Woods campground. From U.S. highway 169 go west on Sherburne County Road 9 for about 2 1/4 miles. Go south on 144th Street for 1/2 mile to 289th Ave. Take this road west to the Camp in the Woods sign on the left. Check the pines in the campground and along the road.

A possible second summer LAUGHING GULL was reported on June 4th at Willow Lake Township at the junction of Redwood County Roads 17 and 4. This is near the town of Wanda. Unfortunately the gull was not found the following day.

Reports from Duluth include two RED-THROATED LOONS off Park Point near the recreation area on June 4th, and an apparent first-year ICELAND GULL / THAYER'S GULL on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry on June 4th. If properly identified, in either case, this would represent a first summer record for Minnesota.

>From northwestern Minnesota Karl Bardon reports a TUNDRA SWAN at the Warren sewage ponds in Marshall Co. on June 7. Six SNOW GEESE at the Roseau sewage ponds on June 6 along with a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER. A WILLET seen at Agassiz NWR on June 7, and many RUDDY TURNSTONES at various locations in Kittson, Roseau, Marshall, Pennington and Polk Counties. And two RED KNOTS were at Morris Point, Lake of the Woods on June 5. Karl also reports that YELLOW RAILS and NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW were calling at Twin Lakes WMA in Kittson Co. on June 6th; and HENSLOW'S SPARROW were singing at the Bicentennial Prairie, Clay Co. on June 8th and at Rothsay WMA, Wilkin Co. on June 9th.

On the 10th, Betsy Beneke found a SNOWY EGRET at Agassiz NWR in Marshall County. The bird was at Farmes Pool on the southwest corner of the refuge.

A FERRUGINOUS HAWK was reported from Lincoln County. The bird was seen June 10th just north of Lake Benton, though no specific location was given. LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES were also reported nesting from this same area. Doug Jenness reported a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE from Dakota County on June 8th. This was along Emery Avenue just south of 160th Street. Reports of Loggerhead Shrike have been way down this year, and I would appreciate hearing of any additional observations.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen by Stephen Yahn on June 7th in his Eagan Backyard. And a late AMERICAN AVOCET was seen by Diane Anderson on June 5th at the east landfill reservoir west of Rochester, Olmsted County.

Late migrants still passing through the state include TENNESSEE WARBLER and CANADA WARBLER at Murphy-Hanrehan Park in Scott County on the 7th, and BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and CONNECTICUT WARBLER on the 10th at the same location. And a WILSON'S WARBLER was in Minneapolis, also on the 10th.
