This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday January 7th sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

On the 5th a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen in the town of Blackduck in Beltrami County. The bird has been visiting the McNeil's heated bird bath at the intersection of Summitt Ave. and 3rd Street.

That VARIED THRUSH reported last week from a feeder in Maple Grove, Hennepin County, at 15967 105th Ave North was still present on January 6th. Wally Arndt from 1920 Laurel Ave. in St. Paul has a VARIED THRUSH visiting his crab apple tree, and it was last reported on the 2nd.

AMERICAN ROBIN reports are still coming in. Ruth Andberg of Anoka in Anoka County counted over 100 near her yard on January 7th. And on the 6th, Karol Gressor found robins in Burnsville along Nicollet Ave. at 134th Street.

Oscar Johnson watched a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK in Brooklyn Park on the 6th.

Jo Blanich reported a NORTHERN GOSHAWK from the town of Crosby in Crow Wing County. The bird is hanging around a yard at 217 - 1st Street SE, and was still present as recently as January 6th. A BREWER'S BLACKBIRD is also being seen in Crosby at 115 - 4th Street NW. Another BREWER'S BLACKBIRD was seen for several days at a feeder in Dakota County, though it has not been seen since December 27th. BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS can also be found in the town of Crosby, and Shelley Steva reported on the 5th that there was a flock of 1,000 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in the town of Thief River Falls, Pennington County. HORNED LARKS are also being found in the surrounding areas.

A flock of eight COMMON REDPOLLS with a single HOARY REDPOLL was at a feeder in Mounds View, Ramsey County on the 7th.

Four GOLDEN EAGLES were seen on the January 1st Afton CBC in Washington County. These were seen at the Kinnickinnic River State Park near the St. Croix River. Two MUTE SWANS and several TRUMPETER SWANS also were seen along the river. And finally, an unusual report from Ontario, Canada. On December 18th, Mark Johnson discovered a PINE WARBLER on the Morrison CBC.
