This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday June 3rd sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The list of interesting birds being seen this spring and on into this summer continues to grow with recent reports of Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Rufous Hummingbird, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Northern Mockingbird, and Red Phalarope.

On May 29th Kim Eckert reported finding a RED PHALAROPE and a group of 12 RED-THROATED LOONS on the Lake Superior side of Park Point in Duluth. Both species were on the lake about 1/4 mile or so south of the Sky Harbor Airport. Two days earlier Dave Benson reported three RED KNOTS from the beach near here, as well as 65 RUDDY TURNSTONES at Hearding Island.

A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was reported on May 28th from a home in St. Paul but the bird has not been seen since the initial observation.

The EURASIAN TREE SPARROW which spent several weeks at a feeder in Clay County last year is apparently back again. Please call either me for additional information.

On the 27th Pam Perry found a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER along Hubbard County Road 33 just west of County Road 49.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was reported by Kevin Johnson on June 1st at the Pickeral Lake boat launch in northern Pine County.

A single CATTLE EGRET was in a pasture northwest of the town of Darwin in Meeker County on the 28th. From the town of Darwin go 1.7 miles north on highway14 and then .7 miles west on 260th street. On the 3rd one was at the Minneapolis - St. Paul airport near the water south of the ballfields. The day before a WILLET was seen here.
