American Three-toed Woodpecker in Koochiching County
This digiscoped photo was taken 2004 Aug 30 at the site in Koochiching County, 2.3 miles south of CR 1 on CR13. An adult male and juvenile bird are shown during a brief respite between unison drumming, i.e. the juvenile male started to drum and the adult immediately drummed in unison. A very fresh nest hole was positioned about 18 inches below them, just out of view in the photo, but I took a separate shot of it for the record. Most likely this represents a parent and its offspring.
