There have been several returning species of birds in the last week on the
upper Gunflint Trail. Ring-billed gulls, American robins, common grackles,
and mallard ducks have been spotted near Gunflint Lodge. Turkey vultures
have been spotted by Loon Lake. The common mergansers have been spotted at
Trail's End Campground.
The other birds that have been spotted in the area in the last week are; the
pine siskin, the bald eagle, the hairy woodpecker, the downy woodpecker, the
evening grosbeak, the purple finch, the American goldfinch, the common
raven, the American crow, the black-capped chickadee, the red-breasted
nuthatch, the blue jay, the gray jay, the pileated woodpecker, and the
ruffed grouse.
