This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, April 17th.
In the town of Russell in Lyon County, two EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES
were found near the park on 2nd Street on April 13th. Another
Collared-Dove is being seen in Willmar, Kandiyohi County. The bird is
visiting the backyard of Joel Halbritter.
A BLACK-HEADED GULL has returned once again to Spirit Lake in Jackson
County. It was seen April 13th on the Minnesota / Iowa border along
Jackson County Road 2. GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were seen the same day
near the traditional site at Grovers Lake, Jackson County.
Erika Sitz found a MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD in Kandiyohi County on the 11th.
It was found along U.S. Highway 12, about a half mile east of mile
marker 80 which is just east of the town of Kandiyohi.
A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was found by Kelly Larson on the 14th at
Frontenac State Park in Goodhue County. It was seen in a dense
thicket at the bridge on the south prairie trail.
Three CATTLE EGRETS were in Chippewa County Park #1 in north central
Chippewa County on the 15th. Take state highway 40 west out of
Willmar for 20 miles to state highway 277 and go north two miles. The
park is on the left and the egrets were feeding in the cattails near
the lake.
A SURF SCOTER was at 38th Street on Minnesota Point in Duluth on the
16th, and ten BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen in east Duluth on the 11th.
Lake Byllesby in Dakota County has produced many shorebirds in the
past couple of weeks. These include GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, and MARBLED GODWIT.
Other migrants reported recently include OSPREY, BONAPARTE'S GULL,
FORSTER'S TERN, EASTERN KINGBIRD, PURPLE MARTIN, NORTHERN
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, EASTERN TOWHEE, FIELD
SPARROW, and SAVANNAH SPARROW.
