I went shorebirding this morning in NW Carver County just west of the =
town of New Germany. I first checked the spot along Hwy. 7 in McLeod =
County just west of the border with Carver County. This site is rapidly =
drying, but there were still good numbers of shorebirds but without the =
variety of last week. Present were:
-Greater Yellowlegs
-Lesser Yellowlegs
-Pectoral Sandpipers
-Baird's Sandpipers
-Least Sandpipers
-Semipalmated Sandpipers
-Killdeer

However, the area with the most shorebird potential for the next few =
weeks looks to be along Cnty. Rd. 30 between Yale and Yancy Ave. There =
is a large body of water that is still very deep just south of Cnty. Rd. =
30 that can be viewed from Yale Ave. This water was surrounded by =
mudflats on the perimeter, but the mudflats aren't yet extensive enough =
to attract anything else besides over a hundred Lesser Yellowlegs. This =
hould change in the next week or so. There are two more ponds on the =
north side of Cnty. Rd. 30 just west of Yale Ave. that have similar =
conditions and should be good in the next few weeks. I'll keep everyone =
posted.
