Report on:
MRVAC Miesville Ravine (Dakota Co.) field trip
Sunday 9/24 8am to 1pm
7 participants
A beautiful day with tolerable insect activity. We found 34 species of birds including 11 species of warblers. We got
great looks at a couple of Woodcock that we flushed. Other birds of note were Yellow-belleid Flycatcher, Philadelphia
Vireo, and Wood Thrush. The spotted jewelweed attracted at least a dozen hyper Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. For the second
year in a row we confirmed breeding of Bobcats in the park. Best butterfly of the day were several Great Spangled
Fritillaries. List of birds at end of report.
Hiking the trails on the day before also scared up Woodcocks and a great look at a Black-billed Cuckoo. Best butterfly that
day was a Harris' Checkerspot.
