Please excuse my "first summer male" term. It's a term that was being
thrown around by us because it didn't have all of the featuers of either
basic or alternate plumaged male Cinnamon Teal, and it definitely wasn't
a female nor a hybrid. After looking at the big Sibley's (I only had
the eastern Sibley's in my car), I agree with Drew that it looks like a
basic plumaged bird. The head seemed to be more in line (color wise)
with Alternate plumage, however the rest of the body is in line with the
basic plumage male Cinnamon Teals. Possibly the bird is at the end of
its moult into basic plumage?

Chris
