Mike,

I observed a lone Smith's Longspur at the same area of the 40th Avenue =
West impoundment on Sunday, Sept. 13 about 8:00 a.m. I saw it well and =
heard it calling. I was not able to relocate the bird on Monday =
morning. I attempted several times to report the sighting via e-mail =
but the MnBird server would not accept my message for some reason.

Hopefully the bird and some of its cousings will stay there awhile.

Dave Thurston
No. St. Paul, Mn.

I was at 40th Ave. West and refound or found another Smith Longspur. =
The longspur was in the SE corner of the main dried up pool.
  =20
I had a 45 second look at the longspur and new it was a Smith Longspur =
but as the bird flew I saw a lot of white in the tail pattern. I wanted =
another look to rule out a Chestnut - collared Longspur but could not =
relocate it. =20
  =20
  Other birds:
  =20
31 Black-bellied Plovers flew over head.
  =20
Indigo Buntings (nice to see in Duluth)
  Harris Sparrows
  Swamp Sparrows (lots)
  Lincoln Sparrow ( a lot )
  =20
With Hurricane Isabel heading for the Carolinas, you have to wonder if =
what rarities could be tossed our way especially in the Great Lakes =
area?? I sure would like to discover a Gannet or a Black Skimmer.
