Thank you to those who responded,
I spoke with woman who reported the Scarlet Tanagers on 4/6. (she
actually saw them 0n 4/4) She described them as two males, between 7-8
inches in length, scarlet red with solid black wings. She did not see any
females. Today, 4/9, she reports seeing two individuals of the same
description around 6am. I asked her to keep a camera handy and requested
that she call me the moment she sees them again. She is familiar with
Purple Finch and House Finch. Both have been regulars at her feeder all
winter. Orioles frequent her fruit and nectar feeders in summer.
This account is intriguing and highly unusual. I plan on driving to
her place tomorrow at 6am to watch. If these birds are still around it
seems likely they would be drawn to her feeding stations again over the
next couple of days with the cooler temps reducing the availability of
insects.
