All, since many of you are out in the field this time of year, we
wanted to seek your assistance.

As part of a study to examine spring condition of migrating lesser
scaup in Minnesota and adjacent states, Louisiana State University and
several partners have color-marked lesser scaup at Pool 19 (Keokuk Pool)
of the Mississippi River in Illinois and Iowa. Many of these birds will
likely travel through Minnesota on their northward migration. We have
had a news release and coverage on the project in the Star-Tribune,
Outdoor News, and other newspapers.

If you see a color-marked scaup (the colors should be readily visible),
please record the following information: (1) date of sighting, (2) color
of scaup, (3) sex of color-marked scaup if known, (4) total number of
scaup observed on the same lake or wetland, (5) location of sighting
(distance and direction from nearest town; lake or wetland name if
known; and county and state). You will be asked to provide your name,
address and phone number so researchers can contact you for further
information and to send them a complimentary pen-and-ink scaup art
print.

Information can be submitted by e-mail Scaup_Project@LSU.EDU, by phone
1-888-MINNDNR or 1-888-646-6367, by fax (225) 578-4144 or by visiting
www.iowadnr.com/wildlife/.

Thanks for your help!

Jeff
