At 4:50pm tonight (23rd), a 1st winter Great Black-backed Gull was preening on the ice visible near the east outflow of the east lake at Black Dog. It was amidst about 150 mostly Herring Gulls. The light was low, but the massive body, large black bill, and checkered coverts and mantle were evident.

Note: The past 2 nights, the gulls have soared and circled for nearly an hour before finally settling at about 4:50pm. Almost too dark to see.
