11-12noon, Nov. 15th. 4 adult Thayer's Gulls were at Black Dog today. Three adults were hanging out together with 150 HEGUs and RBGUs at the far west end of the west lake, near in the inlet. The fourth bird was loafing on the mudflats near the RR tracks on the west end of the east lake (near the plant). Three of these adults showed large red gonydeal spots similar to that typically seen on adult LBBG. The red actually appears to overlap slgightly onto the upper mandible. Look for the darks eyes, round heads (often appearing peaked rather than flat-headed as in HEGU) and bills proportionately smaller that adjacent HEGUs.
