Friday morning covered portions of Sherburne NWR & areas closy by. =
Highlights included:
* Ann Lake - Townsend's Solitaire, Purple Finch; Pine Siskin at gas =
station.
* Auto Tour - rather quiet, surprised to still see robins in the area.
* Big Lake - 71 swans, at least some were Trumpeters by call & band.
Saturday drove north to Aitkin 18, also briefly stopped along Mille Lacs =
Lake:
* Aitkin - Great Grays romping, single Hoary Redpoll in cemetary flock =
of Commons (life bird for this transplanted former southern =
Wisconsinite), Pine Grosbeaks, Gray Jays, Northern Shrikes, Rough-legged =
Hawks, Pileated Woodpeckers. Yes, somehow I missed Northern Hawk Owls =
during three sweeps in the snow - glad I had them on a Sax-Zim trip. =
Needed the 12 year old's eyes with me! Did not see any Bohemians =
driving through Palisade.
* Mille Lacs Lake - very quiet.
Good birding to all!
