Field Trip Report

73 - Species were seen or heard

Enjoyed a fun day of birding in Sibley County. Despite some rain and
temperatures in the low 40's we found a good number of birds and encountered some
waves of early spring migrants. We observed a wave of Yellow-rumped Warblers
and Ruby-crowned Kinglets at a small park on the SE side of Titlow Lake near
the town of Gaylord. There was another wave of birds at the Rush River
Wayside, which included a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. The Gaylord Sewage Ponds on CR
67 had a large number of Ducks, an Eared Grebe and Franklin's and Bonaparte's
Gulls. There were also Western Grebes on Titlow and High Island Lakes. Here
were some of the groups favorite observations:

Trumpeter Swans - Lake Washington
Gray Partridge - CR 67, 1.7 miles East of Hwy 22.
Horned Grebe - Schilling Lake
Red-necked Grebe - CR 12, 1 mile East of Hwy 22.
Eared Grebe - Gaylord Sewage Ponds, on CR 67.
Western Grebe - Titlow Lake, High Island Lake
Bald Eagle - Nesting pairs were observed at the Redhead WPA on Hwy 25 and on
the SE corner of Schilling Lake.
Franklin's Gull - Gaylord Sewage Ponds, on CR 67.
Bonaparte's Gull - Gaylord Sewage Pond, on CR 67.
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - Rush River Wayside
Orange-crowned Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
White-throated Sparrow - only one at the park on the SE side of Titlow Lake.
